Eric Weiner, a foreign correspondent for NPR and a self-described grump, decides to look for the happiest places on earth. He travels to countries as different as Qatar and Iceland, India and the Netherlands, Bhutan and Switzerland, and probes into their cultures to try and find a reason for their contentment. Mixing in philosophy, research, psychology, and a large dose of humor, Weiner succeeds in a book that is both profound in many ways and very entertaining.
