November adult book discussion group reminder

November 18, 2008

Hope you can join us on Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “the Grace that Keeps this World” by Tom Bailey. Bailey, a former SUNY Cortland professor, has written an “emotional page-turner,” of a family struggling to survive in the Adirondacks.

All are welcome. Bring a friend!

“The Lost Photos of Vietnam”

November 5, 2008

I hope you will get a chance to visit our art gallery during the month of November. We are having a very special exhibit this month. My dear friend and former colleague at The Post-Standard, Al Fasoldt, has graciously agreed to exhibit his photos at our library. It is only the third time he has exhibited these photographs since undertaking this massive project in 2006. Al is better known as the technology columnist in Stars magazine but is an exceptional photographer as well.

The photos that Al has painstakingly restored were taken during his stint as a Stars & Stripes photographer in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. Al undertook this project when he learned that all of the negatives from the Stars & Stripes photographers in Vietnam were ordered destroyed by the Pentagon. Using new technology Al has created poster size prints from negatives and contact prints that he had in his possession.

The photographs are quite extraordinary. You will have a chance to meet Al Fasoldt on Thursday, November 13 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. when he comes to the library for a Meet the Artist program.

Hope you can join us for this special evening. If not, make sure to allow some time to come to the library during the month of November to view these amazing photographs. You will not be disappointed.
